In an exclusive conversation with SpotboyE.com, Prerna Arora, co-producer of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, talks about KriArj Entertainment and its future plans. WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE
Prerna Arora and Arjun N. Kapoor, co-founders of KriArj
Entertainment, are on a roll with a packed schedule owing to the films they are
producing. The production house, which began its journey with Akshay
Kumar-starrer Rustom (2016), is gearing up for the release of their next,
Akshay and Bhumi Pednekar’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha that hits theatres on
Friday.
The film is a satirical take on a battle against the
age-old tradition of open defecation in the country and aims to spread
awareness about the issue.
SpotboyE.com sat down for a chat with Prerna Arora who
took us through her journey and plans for future.
Ask her about KriArj bagging Rustom and she says that it
was a sheer case of ‘being at the right place at the right time’. “We (Prerna
and Arjun) started the company and met Kamal Haasan. He was keen on doing a
film with Akshay Kumar and a meeting was arranged. However, the deal didn’t
happen then. Then, sometime later, Rustom came our way. We were fortunate to be
at the right place at the right time. Akshay sir was also a partner on the film
(Cape Of Good Films). It all just fell into place,” says Prerna.

Needless to say, Prerna is delighted. “It’s big and
overwhelming since it’s coming from the Prime Minister. The country looks up to
him as he is one of the biggest leaders we have today. He is bringing about a
lot of changes in India with initiatives like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan being a
proof. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is our way of contributing to society,” explains
Prerna.
Besides Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, KriArj is also
co-producing Anushka Sharma-starrer Pari, posters of already aroused curiosity
amongst movie buffs. Talking about collaborating with Anushka, Prerna states,
“I really wanted to work with Anushka. She doesn’t shy away from taking up
challenges or experimenting. Whatever she did in NH10 was amazing. She is not
looking at numbers and wants to do something extraordinary. Pari is very
different from whatever we have seen so far.”

Furthermore, Anushka has always been outspoken about the
cuts suggested by the Censor Board and was particularly upset during NH10. So,
where, according to Prerna does censorship stand today? “I believe in what
Pahlaj Nihalani says. I am with him. We are no one to challenge their
decisions. It’s a huge responsibility and if he is voicing out something
strongly, we need to respect that,” she asserts.
So, wouldn’t she be disappointed if certain scenes are
diluted or shortened? “I haven’t faced it till now. Hopefully we wouldn’t. But
if we do, we will have to go with it. I am not going to oppose it. This is my
point of view. As an independent producer, if I make a film with complete
conviction and they (Board members) feel that it’s going to be harmful to the
society in any way, I am going to opt out.”
Prerna and Arjun are also working in tandem with John
Abraham for Parmanu-The Story Of Pokhran. Directed by Abhishek Sharma, the film
is based on the nuclear test conducted in Pokhran in 1998. Talking about
Parmanu, Prerna informs, “After Airlift, I am seeing that the youth of the
country is interested in subjects which showcase patriotism, are inspirational,
promote positivity. Parmanu has a thrill element.”

That’s not all. The duo are also backing Sara Ali Khan’s
debut, Kedarnath, which features Sushant Singh Rajput opposite her and has
Abhishek Kapoor at the helm. Ask her about the debutante and she says, “Sara is
a beautiful person and extremely promising. You know a star is in the making
when you look at her. Abhishek Kapoor (Gattu, as he is fondly called) is
very confident about her and we are lucky to have both her and Sushant on board.”

Up next, also in KriArj’s kitty are Fanney Khan starring
Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhinav Bindra’s biopic featuring
Harshvarshan Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj’s next – to name just a few.

strength to strength and is a much-talked name in the Bollywood circuit.
